How hard can two dimensions be?
Jonah Gebka is a painter based in Munich, Germany. Drawing on everyday observations as well as found imagery, his work relates to the sense of isolation and performativity that permeates intimate spaces and routines of Western societies. Jonah has received several local and national grants in Germany, most recently a travel-grant to the US by the State of Bavaria. The paintings featured in the exhibition were produced during his residency at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts in September of this year.
Jonah's works are part of the Collection of Contemporary Art of the Federal Republic of Germany and have been exhibited at various institutions and galleries in Germany and abroad, including Boutwell Schabrowsky, Munich (2022); DASfest, Gent (2021); Kunstraum Ortloff, Leipzig (2020); and the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung in der Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich (2017).
